Jelly Roll’s Long-Rumored Collaboration With Snoop Dogg Is Finally Here

Snoop Dogg’s Dr. Dre-produced new album, Missionary, was released on Friday (December 13). One of the clear standouts on the record is the rapper’s long-awaited collaboration with Jelly Roll, and the track is Snoop’s ode to weed that fittingly samples Tom Petty. Snoop and Jelly’s joint track, “Last Dance with Mary Jane” borrows its hook and title from Petty’s 1993 hit song, “Mary Jane’s Last Dance,” and finds the rapper reflecting on his lifelong love affair with weed. Jelly Roll, a recovering drug addict, takes the song in a different direction with his verses, singing, “Mary Jane is not a plant I smoke, but a woman who broke my heart…It’s so unfair what she did to me, the way she sparked this epiphany.” Snoop and Jelly Roll debuted “Last Dance With Mary Jane” a few weeks ago, when the rapper was a surprise special guest during the country star’s Beautifully Broken Tour stop at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on November 26.
